  • Why we built it

    Students in KOR 1101 write Korean better than they speak it. Written work can be revised and checked against notes; speech can’t. Closing that gap takes volume of spoken practice — more than a single instructor and fixed class hours can supply.

  • What KiM does

    KiM is one tool, done carefully: a conversation partner you can talk to any time, as often as you like. It stays inside the words and grammar you’ve been taught up to your current unit — even if you reach for something you picked up elsewhere.

    A student-built project at Vanderbilt, developed with the Korean program under the supervision of Dr. Seok Bae Jang and supported by the university’s digital lab. KiM is also a study of how structured practice improves spoken Korean.
